With only 15 balls faced, the heavens opened and despite having a new outfield fitted over the winter, and massive drainage works done at the same time, it still wasn’t enough to stop the duck ponds forming on the outfield, the blocked drains on the covers didn’t help causing a large overspill onto the track during the second spell of rain, so with little chance of the pitch drying out after tea (another good one btw - with paté!) was called early, the umpire made the decision to abandon the match.

 

Result: Match Drawn.

Well, it’s 5pm and the game’s been over 55 minutes already, and only 81 runs scored over both innings on a glorious sunny afternoon.

Captain, Brian Stone, doing his usual sleight of hand and winning the toss, put a weakened Chapel-en-le-Frith team in to bat with 4 juniors, and with only the 4th ball of the game Mudi racked up the first of seven wickets conceding just 14 runs over eight overs.

With 4 wickets down with only 10 runs on the board, the rout had already begun, including two catches from my son Jordan, the second of which, the better, over his shoulder moving at pace.

With just 40 runs on the board, and Joan rushing to get the tea’s out, the thoughts were now to not concede more than one wicket, to ensure maximum points, thankfully, that is what we managed, with openers Alex Wilde and Rick Parry, putting 29 on the scoreboard, before James Beswick replaced Rick to help put the remaining 12 runs on with 8.

Result: Stalybridge win by 9 wickets.
